Advising companies and representing defendants on trial for corruption offences both in public office and in business dealings are a focal area of our work as lawyers. Public prosecutors take actions seen as socially acceptable, such as invitations to business dinners or sponsored training events as occasions for far-reaching investigations, which are often the subject of great interest in the media. The definition of offences is also being constantly expanded, for example, to include foreign authorities and third-party beneficiaries. It is particularly significant that in many Länder, including Berlin, a sentence results in being registered in a corruption list. This has far-reaching consequences for the company affected.
